Overview

Before Madame Octa...

Before the Cirque...

Before Darren Shan...

Larten Crepsley was a young man.

After failing his mentor and killing the entire crew of a ship in a bout of revenge for the death of his assistant, Larten is bereft with guilt. He no longer has the drive to live the vampiric life, and hides out in Paris, masquerading as a human. There, he finds some happiness, even falling in love with a girl. But the darkness inside him is too great for humanity, and he is forced to make a choice: hide in the shadows of the human world, or take his place among the vampire clan and protect those weaker than himself. But enemies are waiting, traps are laid, and Larten's path is bound to be strewn with bodies.

This is his story.

    Great book.

Another great book in a great series. This book introduces you to many of the vampires you fell in love with in the cirque series. With twists and turns you wont be able to put it down. Larten's return to Vampire Mountain, and the reasons for why he is the way he is. I can't wait for the next book.

Ive always loved reading books from Darren Shan. I find him to be an excellent writer. At first, the book was a little slow, but as i kept reading i found myself enjoying the book more and more. I cant wait to read his next book in the series.

Its amazing how this rude stubborn vampire became the mentor of darren shan who is serious and scolds darren for being almost just like him...sad thing is that we know how his life ends...EVEN IN DEATH MAY HE BE TRIUMPHANT

    Just finished. So good! :)

Soooo good! I loved it! One thing, the only way this book will be good is if you read Cirque Du Freak. It wont be exciting other wise. But still! So many grea surprises like, oh thats where that came from, or OMG he is here! This book was probably best in the Larten Crepsley series so far! A must read for Cirque lovers! :D
