"Jesus H. Christ, Walker, the answer is Levon Helm and it's the start of another perfect day in paradise."
There was never much trouble in Paloma, New Mexico. Geoff Walker, retired and bored, had to choose between being the small town's marshal and chairman of the local school board and its three-room school. With a background in law and a dusty law degree packed in his attic, he chose marshal. Until the day that he found the body of Juan Valdez it had seemed like a good choice.

Meet the Author

A former tank unit commander, military lawyer, and paratrooper, John O'Dowd left the Army to go into private law practice. Not even the skills he had learned as a graduate of the Air Force's Unconventional Warfare School and the Army's Airborne, Ranger and Jungle Expert schools, could prepare him for dealing with angry divorce clients.
When he had milked all of the fun out of the practice of law that he could stand, he went to work as a general assignment reporter for a small newspaper. It was yet another disappointment. Editors were generally happy with the stories but expected most of the words to be spelled correctly. To the surprise and shock of editors and publishers he won three state press awards. .
He is also the author of the "Mahko's Knife" series: Mahko's Price, Mahko's Knife and Mahko's Gift.
Like all great ideas (the Hula Hoop and Chia Pet to name but two) "Pale Blue Jesus" came to me and gave me no choice but to write it.

O'dowd's mystery thriller introduces the reluctant marshal Geoff Walker to a small desert town where an obscure religious sect is behind shadowy maneuvers--and Walker's first case involves a crucifixion victim. If you like intelligent mystery with an unsettling undercurrent and dry wit, this one will fit the bill. Scott Nicholson, author of Disintegration
