Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Jeanna Sciarrotta
Pandora and her friends continue on their journey to capture all of the evils that she mistakenly let out of the infamous box. In this adventure, Lust is their goal, and Pandora must follow it back in time 1300 years! Hermes the messenger god decides to help, but they must remember: they cannot change anything! Pandy, Alcie, Iole, and Homer discover Lust at the wedding of Thetis and Peleus, but nothing is ever as easy as they think it will be. It turns out that Lust is actually in the mythical golden apple that Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite fight over. This quest proves itself to be the most dangerous and heartfelt one yet. No one is safe, and the act of trapping Lust back in the box just might take the life of someone they all love. Caroline Hennesy continues to craftily weave classical Greek mythology into her Pandora series. Readers with a background in mythology and those with a minimal knowledge base will love the result. It is delightful to read about Pandora's adventures as she travels through well-known stories, yet has a story all her own within each one. These books are wonderfully light companion books to mythology studies in school, and they are just as good to readers looking for an interesting series to enjoy. Reviewer: Jeanna Sciarrotta

Gr 4–7—With the help of Hermes, Pandy and her friends travel back in time 1300 years to Mount Pelion in search of Lust at the wedding of mortal King Peleus to the goddess Thetis. Upset that she was not invited, Eris, the Goddess of Discord, places Lust in a golden apple with "To the fairest" engraved on it and hurls it into the ceremony. Lust for the apple falls upon Aphrodite, Athena, and Hera. Pandy and her friends go through many ordeals in order to retrieve it, including Paris's judging of who is the fairest, being maimed or blinded, Hera's meddling, and going back to the near present to retrieve the golden apple from a new temple for Aphrodite. Hennesy brings a light, convivial tone to the dialogue and plot that—while adding a modern spin—at times seems awkward and distracts from the story. Pandora Gets Heart is a suitable addition for those who have purchased other books in the series; others might consider passing on it.—Adrienne L. Strock, Maricopa County Library District, AZ

    In a way.

In answer to the most recent question, in a way alcie IS dead, but not fully dead, since she cant see the elysian fields. Shes comin back. And pandora becomes filled with RAGE if you catch my draft, so theres this whole fiasco with hera being slapped across the face and being lit on fire. And pandy ends up with : dido, huge sorrow, amd the apple. Hope this helped.

    What a book!

This was such a page-turner. I could try to figure out what would happen next, but I would always be wrong. This had so much action in it, and was a FANTASTIC addition to the series. Cannot wait to get the next book. :) -Posted by: MistyRose

    Amazing!

As usual, delving into the latest adventures of Pandora and her friends, has been a great enjoyment. From the opening scenes of Iole worrying about her friends having forgotten her special day - her Maiden Day (thirteenth birthday) to Alcie's selfless act to save her friends and further the mission to return all the evils back to the box. I enjoyed watching Iole begin to mature and make more of a place for herself with her friends, stand up for herself and take risks. It was good to see Pandy question the decisions she made in letting her friends join her, even though she acknowledged she wouldn't be able to have gotten as far as she had without them and their strengths to help her. And to see Alcie sacrifice her very life for her friends and the sake of the mission. It took me three days to read this amazing story - I couldn't put it down - and I cannot wait to see where the next adventure takes the friends. And I have faith in the fact that Alcie will be around . . . I am sure Hades will right the wrong set on her by Hera very soon!!

    LOVE IT!

I just read this book and I think that it is great. I feel sad that Alcie died, there has been a lot happening to her. She had 2 left feet, she is still affected with the fruit words, she is blind, and she is trapped in the underworld!! They celebrated Iole's birthday, traveled 1,300 years into the past, turned into dogs (long story), and lost Alcie. This book will leave you guessing. When will Hera get the punishment she deserves? This book is good for readers that are interested in Greek and Roman mythology. Although it is like Percy Jackson, this is more of a book for girls. I am looking forward to the rest of the series. This book is good for pre-teens.

    LOVE THESE BOOKS!!

The Pandora series are at the top of my favorite book list, next to the lightning thief. I love these books because the are funny, thrilling, girly, and i am a huge fan of greek mythology. I recommend these books to you if you like the percy jackson and the olympians series. Because they are almost the same idea, but I think "Pandora" is better for girls. The characters in this book are amazing and hilarious and I enjoy every minute of reading them!!
