Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - K. Meghan Robertson
Mythology made even more entertaining by authors that take liberty with the stories is becoming popular, and this series of "Pandora" stories seeks to bring the Pandora character into a variety of humorous and mischievous situations. Publishers Weekly said of the series that "Harry Potter meets Edith Hamilton [renowned source for mythology] in this cheeky rendition of Pandora's famous faux pas…." That faux pas, of course, is when Pandora submits to her curiosity and opens the box entrusted to her by the gods. This box contained all the evils in the world, but luckily she closed the box before all of its contents were released; however, all that remained was hope. Meanwhile this story of Pandora with her friends Iole, Alcie, and Homer is fun, but to a mythology "buff" it can be misleading. Mythological and historical names are used but, in an effort to thrill young readers, the story is completely fabricated, achieving the goal of a fictional read but simultaneously confusing a reader with an interest in the "real" myths. Gr 4–7—Fresh from the ordeals of collecting Jealousy and Vanity, Pandora and her friends are off in search of Laziness. The story opens as Pandy falls out of Apollo's sun chariot. Aided by Dionysus and his team of attack squirrels, she begins her journey on foot, only to get captured by slavers and dragged on a lengthy journey to the Atlas Mountains (convenient—she is heading there anyway). Here she is reunited with her friends (who were abducted by pirates and forced into slavery) and is surprised to find Laziness camping out in her Uncle Atlas's nostril. All in all, the story is a bit choppy and fragmented. This isn't a series readers can join in the middle, as character traits, in-jokes, and references to previous events will confuse newcomers, but Pandora's fans of the series should enjoy it.—Brandy Danner, Wilmington Memorial Library, MA

    Ah-mazing!

Once again, Carolyn Hennesy as put her magical to the newest addition to the series! I loved how each character found their true maturity while they were separated and found out that even without Pandy, you can still inch forward. I also loved the two little boys and how they helped Pandy with her quest. It's not only the book itself thats amazing, it' the detail. Every detail was perfey described in this package. And I yearned for more. Absolutely could not put the book down and enjoyed every page that I turned.

    Pandora Gets Lazy

I finished the book in two days - I couldn't put it down! I liked how Ms. Hennesy started exactly where Pandora Gets Vain ended; the flow from one into the other was seamless.

I enjoyed the story as a whole. Pandora being separated from her friends added a whole other level of maturity to all of them. I also liked how Prometheus was able to see for himself how much Pandora had grown up during this mission.

Adding the two little boys was a nice touch. It showed Pandora that she was no longer a child and could be responsible for others lives. She was willing to give up her selfishness to help others.

I look forward to the next installment!!

    Reviewed by JodiG. for TeensReadToo.com

Pandora Atheneus Andromaeche Helena, "Pandy" to her friends and family, has already saved the world from Vanity and Jealousy. The fact that she let them loose on the world in the first place is really just a tiny detail.

Pandy is the only daughter of the Titan, Prometheus, and she is in trouble with Zeus. Due to an unfortunate incident at school, all the evils of the world have been released from a box that was entrusted to her father. Zeus has ordered that Pandora find each of them in order to save the world, and her family. Pandy, along with her friends Alcie, Iole, and Homer, are now headed to the Atlas Mountains to capture Laziness.

The goddess Hera, wife of Zeus, is still determined that Pandora will fail on her quest. This time Hera has taken Pandy's dog, Dido. But, while the other gods are sympathetic to Pandy, nobody would dare to interfere with Zeus or Hera. Not right out in the open anyway.

Early on this journey, Pandy becomes separated from her friends. She befriends two young boys on her way and finds herself captured and chained to them. Unknown captors are leading Pandy to an unknown destination, and she is surrounded by danger every step of the way.

While Pandy is being led through the dark and dangerous path to the mountain Jbel Toubkal, Alcie, Iole, and Homer find themselves aboard the ship Syracusa with problems of their own. They are on the ship with one of the evils and now they must capture Misery on their own.

And, high in the Atlas Mountains, Pandy will come face to face with her uncle, Atlas. It is the fate of Atlas to hold up the heavens but something has changed and human men are being forced to carry his load. Once again, it is up to Pandy to save her friends, her family, and every human on earth while finding the evils of the world. All while her time is quickly running out.

The MYTHIC MISS-ADVENTURE series are books about ancient places and characters with a very humorous and modern touch. The first two books in the series, PANDORA GETS JEALOUS and PANDORA GETS VAIN, offer an introduction and further adventures of Pandy and her friends, but each book can be enjoyed just as much on its own.

PANDORA GETS LAZY is as funny and adventurous as the previous books and Pandora and her friends are even more endearing with each book.
