Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
A sharp eye can find many literary references in this exciting fantasy manga. Oz, the main character, is turning 15 and is all set to be part of a ceremony, only to be dragged into a hellish place called the Abyss, for reasons he doesn't know. Previously, he was a rambunctious rich boy who didn't treat his servants well, but the Abyss is supposed to only take the worst of the worst. In this dark and disturbing world he meets a girl named Alice, whom he may or may not be able to trust, but who might be the only way out. The title clearly references Pandora from Greek mythology, while names, images, and characters play up their resemblances to the works of L. Frank Baum and Lewis Carroll (there are also allusions to Dante and Japanese mythology). Mochizuki's work, along with being creepy and hard to put down, slips in plenty of education along with his ornate, Goth art. With its mystery, symbolism and action-packed storyline, Oz's story will catch the attention of diverse readers. (Dec.)

I love this series! I have to say this is one of my most favorit

    I love this series!
I have to say this is one of my most favorite series ever. Its quite possibly my MOST favorite series ever. The story quickly caught my attention immediately (although I'm not sure if it was for all the right reasons) and constantly kept it. I love all the Alice's Adverntures in Wonderland refrences but most of all I love plot development and the pyschological acspects of the characters that later evolve in the story. I've re-read it several times and each time I do I just realize how great this story is and how much I love it! If you keep up with this, I'm positive you won't regret it.
On the side note: To the Publishers Weekly review: I just wanted to state that Jun Mochizuki is a her, not a him. XD
Also to Madame_Lovey-Dovey (nice name by the way): I like to state that I am currently reading Tsubasa (I'm on Volume 11) and so far Pandora Hearts and Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles are not much very alike. While memories play an important part in the two, they aren't always use in the same way. Memories in Tsubasa reveal truths and and give more insight to a character, a relationship or situation. Pandora Hearts also used memories in this way but also adds the fact that memories are not always the complete truth and can be used as a weapon of manipulation (this will make more sense later on in the series). Overall, they aren't alike at all. I have to state though I totally get what you mean. When I first read this I thought the story was going to go into the direction that Tsubasa takes but I was decived! Its not like that all! Well maybe 4% of it is? In conclusion, the story is pretty original, at least thats what I say.

    Creepy. Awesome.

Amazing! It had an awesome creepiness about it and I couldn't put it down easily. It was a sort of dark fantasy with blood and talking dolls. I loved the characters, especially the B-Rabbit. Oz was pretty full of himself and his butler Gilbert was so loyal and cute. There was so much mystery and suspence, definitly a good read.

    Very good read.

Now this was a weird, dark, strange but interesting first volume in the series. You can tell there are obvious Alice in Wonderland references. Looking forward to reading this series. Very good read.

An Exciting Play on Alice in Wonderland

First my I say that I loved the clothing; the origonality is winning at least in that. I can tell from his drawings that Jun is a very talented artist who holds lots of potential. However, I started to ntice near the middle and the end of this book that it was stealing alot of the storyline from Tsubasa by Clamp. I was very dissapointed to find this, because I was so excited to figure out what Pandora Hearts was all about when I bought it. Also, The begining sort of grabs you by the shirt collar and pulls you into the plot. In conclusion, Even though it's not very origonal, I plan to collect and read all the books Just because I'm dyng to know what happens next. I would not recommend it though. If you've read Tsubasa you'll see what I mean but if you haven't and you plan to read Pandora Hearts, please keep in mind that this is not a story of originality.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!! I LOVE this series!!!

This is one of the greatest series I have ever read. It's deep, thoughtful, and contains a very detailed and intense plotline. Definitely not what I expected from a "comic" book. It is great for adults and children alike. I seriously could not put this book down. While it may borrow some elements from "Alice in Wonderland" it truly is it's own story. Don't be thrown off by this first book. Try a few of them, and I promise you won't be sorry. Honestly, I really wish that they would have made a longer written novel version of this or even a movie, and maybe someday they will. The art is beautiful, however, and fun and altogether this is quite an enjoyable read. Definitely read between the lines. :)

    A Must!

When I can spare a few minutes, I've been picking this manga up. Once you start reading, it takes a LOT of will power to put it away. The storytelling flows wonderfully and you are always itching to turn the page to see what happens next. Plus, if you want something different and dark then you should definitely check this one out :)

    Pandora Hearts

Pandora Hearts is a story about a young man named Oz Bezarius (Vessalius)who is about to become of age. When he asked his main servant, Gilbert, to join him at the ceremony, he didn't expect Gilbert to get possessed and definately didn't expect for himself to be sent into the abyss where he meets a chain named Alice.
Pandora Hearts is absolutely amazing. It constantly keeps you reading and has an original plot. Since I'd watched the anime for this series, I couldn't wait for the book to come out in December when it did. The characters are loveable, different and wonderful. If you like Alice in Wonderland, you'd probably like this.
