I can't agree with the AMG review. Miles and his band seem to be restrained in their playing, with many quiet interludes. I am a new Davis listener and many reviews I have read of this concert led me to expect a Hendrix style blast of feedback. There is some of that but this seems to be mostly an experiment in sound and space music. (Maybe I didn't play it loudly enough.)I may be missing something but 3 1/2 stars would be my highest rating.I am not done with exploring Miles Davis fusion but I am learning that you need to evaluate it differently than more tradition music, be it jazz or rock.

this is the 2nd part of an all day jazz show done in japan by the (imho)best jazz band working. it is all live. no overdubs,no re-takes what you hear is real, true and beautiful. some jazz purists will say this recording sucks and give textbook reasons .i believe this to be the highest expression of miles davis'music. if you love his music, this will really touch you. give it a listen with an open mind. a true genius will be revealed. Was this review helpful?
