Barnes & Noble - David McGee
Chalee Tennison's Dreamworks debut realizes the promise of her earlier recordings -- and then some -- with a winning combination. Her voice is country, her music edges out of country into rock, and her songs tell moving stories about everyday folk just struggling to get by, souls intact. Her husky, bluesy swagger summons comparisons to Wynonna's, but Tennison isn't walking in any other artist's shoes. When she digs into the stirring ballad "Peace," she makes bone-wearying metaphysical battles nearly palpable, the pedal steel moaning eerily behind her. At the other end of the emotional spectrum, she methodically works her way through the verses of the booming "I Am Love,"...

At the other end of the emotional spectrum, she methodically works her way through the verses of the booming "I Am Love," exploding exultantly in the choruses, making for a jaw-dropping experience. Sweet strings, a silky background voice, and tasty, low-key piano fills establish a lilting but dramatic backdrop for "Easy Lovin' You," an inspirational tale of a girl who laments the childhood she gave away by getting pregnant in high school but celebrates the fulfilling life she's experiencing as a devoted mom. And for those who want to know, the catchy, singsong ditty "The Mind of This Woman" catalogues one gal's cluttered mental state as she negotiates "three things at one time" in her gray matter, all set to swatches of fiddle, acoustic guitar, pedal steel, and jazzy organ punctuations. With its feisty musical backdrops and deeply engaged vocal performances, Parading in the Rain offers depth aplenty -- and should be Chalee Tennison's ticket into country's upper ranks.
All Music Guide - Johnny Loftus
Chalee Tennison's third full-length (and first for DreamWorks) is firmly, proudly contemporary country -- its hints of pedal steel and rootsy acoustic strum only surface in relation to lush, tasteful arrangements. But this straightforward sound is perfect for the husky-voiced Tennison, since her fiercely honest lyrics are Parading in the Rain's true focus. In "Me and Mexico," she makes the country's simple pleasures proud accessories to a final breakup. "I bought a big sombrero and it made me laugh," "I drank some tequila/I said 'Who needs ya?'" -- the electric feelings of freedom Tennison gives these lines is incredible. She's just as confident with slower, more introspective material. The brooding, largely acoustic "Mind of This Woman" is one of the album's emotional touchstones; in it, Tennison's detailed description of the painful piling up of everyday events and chores makes the memory of a brief romantic respite that much more heartening. Other highlights include the self-confident title track and the first single, "Lonesome Road," which lets Tennison loosen up with its rollicking banjo and fiddle. Contemporary and pop-country artists too often coast on easy elements of image and cliché, so it's refreshing to see Chalee Tennison building bridges between the bright footlights and the human heart.

    Good stuff!

This music has been a real treat to hear on our local radio station! I've been looking for this album for a long time! I'll be playing this out in the horse barn while I work!

Are you ready for a parade?

Chalee Tennison is quite possibly the most underrated artist in country music today. Why radio hasn’t caught on, I’ll never know. The latest album proves to be the best, and most emotional, yet. The opening track, “I Am Love,” is a breath-taking declaration of love and devotion. “Parading In The Rain” is an upbeat and uplifting tune that will make you want to grab an umbrella and dance (trust me, I’ve done it). “Easy Lovin’ You” is a real-life story about Chalee and her oldest daughter (who provides the harmony vocals on this track). “Lonesome Road” is a rip-roaring toe-tapper with a hint of bluegrass flair. “The Mind of This Woman” has an almost haunting melody and is a song that ANY woman can relate to. “Me and Mexico” is a fun, up-beat number that will have you craving tacos and tequila. “I Am Pretty” is an absolutely beautiful song with an emotional message (if this one doesn’t make you tear up, check your pulse). “Cheater’s Road” is modern country cheatin’ song penned by singer/songwriter Jason Sellers. “More To This Than That” is a Gary Burr/Carolyn Dawn Johnson tune about the perils of divorce. “Believe” is an inspirational look at love and life. “Peace” is a well-written tearjerker about people searching for…well, peace. The flawless vocal tracks and brilliant arrangements are sure to make this album an excellent addition to any true music lover’s collection. So, jump on the bandwagon – I think it’s time for a PARADE!
