    How to Disappear Completely

How to disappear completely: that's the special gift offered by Paradise, a private firm that offers aid to fugitives from criminal pursuers. With funding from Swedish social welfare agencies, Paradise gives victims on the run a new chance at life. Or so it seems. By a lonely dockside at the international port in Stockholm, two men lie dead. A witness, a woman, runs from a relentless, invisible killer. Soon she seeks refuge with Paradise. About this time Annika Bengtzon, journalist, begins to cover the story of Paradise. She begins to get hints of trouble: 'Don't trust Rebecka,' a Paradise client whispers, referring to its director. If you can't trust Paradise, then whom can you trust? Annika eventually finds an ally in a city accountant, Thomas Samuelsson, who wants to know what the Paradise Foundation is doing with the funding they get. Following the money he reaches unexpected places ¿ professionally and personally. Together Annika and Thomas get to the bottom of things. Tragically not everyone gets the new lease on life that is the hope of Paradise. A pretty good thriller set in an interesting and (to me) exotic locale. To me, however, the depths of character and plot found in Henning Mankell or Helen Tursten mysteries make those stories more lastingly satisfying.
