Some books you will read on parakeet care almost seem to remind you of pushy pet store employees. They try to talk you into getting a parakeet by acting like their care is extremely easy. While it is true that the care of these birds is not difficult they do require much more care and attention than most books will admit. I like this book because it gives you the facts on what they need with a blunt 'no holds barred' attitude. The author basically tells you that if you can't meet these needs in your bird you need to choose a different kind of pet.

It is nice to occasionally come across a book in which the auther actually knows what they are talking about! This book is very accurate. My brother, who is an avian veteranerien says it is the only book he would recomend for beginners.
