"This fast-paced, short novel is perfect...It offers the excitement of the game and at the same time includes a story with substance and morals...Recommended."
CM Magazine
"A deeply engaging story...This book will pleasantly surprise readers used to the same old predictable sports stories for boys... For a very good portrayal of emotional turmoil, this is one football story that is worthy of reading, regardless of how much the reader loves or loathes sport. Highly Recommended."
Southwestern Ohio Young Adult Materials Review Group
"This is one of the best Orca books I've read. This book will be a great read for reluctant readers."
Children's Literature - Amie Rose Rotruck
Reggie Scott is an excellent football player, who loves nothing better than helping his team win the game. But when an accident on the field leaves Nate Brown, a member of the opposing team, injured, Reggie finds his life is just as changed as Nate's. Even though everyone, borne out by video of the game, says that Reggie was not at fault and that Nate played dangerously, Reggie is still haunted by the accusations of Nate's mother and the press. When his coach and father realize that Reggie's guilt and doubt are hurting him as a player, Reggie is benched and forced to undergo counseling. As if this is not hard enough, Nate's mother's complaints force the school to give Reggie a hearing to determine whether he should be suspended. Reggie continues to check on Nate's progress, and is very glad that Nate does not bear him any ill will. But the stress of accusations, even when tempered with encouragement from the people who mean the most, can take a huge toll. While the book gets off to a weak start (the accident happens before you really get to know Reggie, which weakens the emotional impact), the reader eventually gets caught up in Reggie's issues as he fights to clear his name in both the public eye and his own conscience. Something wasn't right, though. Nate Brown was still lying out in the middle of the field. Dr. Stevens was kneeling beside him now, watching him intently and checking his pulse. My chest began to tighten, and I started to sweat. Why wasn't Nate getting up?

Spiritstar, it's time for Shadowpaw and Dapplepaw to be warriors. They are great hunters. Shadowpaw fought off a fox and Dapplepaw caught a lot of prey with perfect skills. I have ideas for their names. Shadowclaw and Dapplefeather are good names.
