"The drawings aren't very good, Mama."
—Crappy Boy, age 5

Of course you love being a parent. But sometimes, it just sucks. I know. I'm Amber Dusick and I started my blog Parenting: Illustrated with Crappy Pictures because I needed a place to vent about the funny (and frustrating) day-to-day things that happened to me as a parent. Turns out, poop is hilarious! At least when you're not the one wiping it up.

This book won't make your frustrating moments any less crappy. But these stories about my Crappy Baby, Crappy Boy and my husband, Crappy Papa, will hopefully make you laugh. Because you're not alone. And sometimes the crappiest moments make the best memories. Parenting is wonderful! And also, well, you know.

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Dusick, Parents magazine's 2011 "Funniest Mom Blog" winner, offers a book-length take on the same, exploring the exasperating moments of life with small children (poop, lack of sleep, messes, etc.), accompanied with "crappy" illustrations, which absolutely take the cake. The entries are one to two pages in length each, with minimal text, and the point of view changes between adult and child, making for some ticklish insights. Her characters are neckless and handless stick figures with eye "domes" instead of eyeballs, yet the package is richly developed, and the narrative is minimalist humor at its best (e.g., "He has no concept of being quiet while people are sleeping, so he barges in loudly asking for random shit"). VERDICT There is no shortage of mommy blogs that are turned into books, but Dusick's is terribly funny. It joins the ranks of other raunchy parenting titles, such as Go the F*ck to Sleep (2011) and—my favorite—When Parents Text (2011). Libraries without fat wallets will be hard pressed to justify this, but crappy parents everywhere will love it.

Meet the Author

Amber Dusick was a sleep-deprived mother of two when she sat down to write her first blog post at CrappyPictures.com. Her pictures were admittedly crappy, but her hilarious take on parenting made the site an overnight success. She lives in Los Angeles with her not-at-all-crappy husband, two sons and two black cats. She also has a fish but usually leaves him out of bios.

This book is hilarious and I can identify with all of these stories. As a mother if three toddlers myself it is nice to know I am not the only one out there. It is definitely a quick read but very funny!

One of the best section in this hilarious book is the one on kid's language. I have one child and am due with my second in a couple of months, and I laughed so hard my stomach hurt. Any Mama, new or veteran, will have a great time reading this book-it is just so funny and so very realistic!

Love the Crappy Pictures blog, this book, and Amber. She is hilarious, and this book is as well! If you are a mother, have a mother, or know a mother, this is a great gift for that woman!

I was laughing out loud by the fifth page. What can I say, this is SUCH a funny book and such a perfect pick me up when you are having one of those days. I related to almost every story and this is the book that gives you that "I thought it only happened in our house!" feeling.

I love Amber's blog--but I don't always shell out real money for the books of bloggers. This one is totally worth it. Not just because now you can read Amber's work in the bathroom without taking a computer in there--although that's a good thing. But because in spite of the fact that she's helping us all laugh at the poop, potty training, barf, and all the other stuff about parenting that is sometimes - well - Crappy, Amber Dusick is also keeping in mind the love, the tenderness, the joy. You will not regret shelling out for this blogger's book. Also, if civilization crumbles and the internet goes the way of steam engines and film-based cameras, you will always be able to read the story about the night Crappy Mama was in charge of paying the pizza guy. Laughing out loud every time.

Let me first say that I LOVE the crappypictures blog. I was so excited for the book that I rushed out and bought a copy. Unfortunately, I was disappointed as the best stories were already shared on the blog. I did laugh out loud a couple of times, but not like I had anticipated, as I do when reading the posts online. I paid $18 in store at Barnes and Noble and wish I hadn't. I think I'll just stick with the blog in the future. Sorry, Amber!

Absolutely amazing book for the parent who needs some humor brought into every day life! I am a huge fan of Amber's blog and her book didn't let me down. Phenomenal! It had me laughing so hard I was crying and I even accidentally woke up my 18 month old... oops!

This book is totally not crappy! I pretty much feel like Amber Dusick is living my life, except my two cats are white instead of black. I bought a copy for myself and a copy to give to my sister-in-law who is expecting her first baby. I think it's a perfect preview of all the fun, craziness, poop, and love that are heading her way.

Loved it! Just as funny as Amber Dusick's blog, but you get more all at once! It's so spot on, you'll find yourself wondering if the author has been spying on you. If you have children, grandchildren, grown-up children who were once little kids, spend time with kids, I highly recommend this book. It will help remind you to laugh often.

This book is a treasure, as is Amber Dusick's incredible blog. She has avid fans around the world and, chances are, when you read her book you will count yourself as one. My kids are long grown, but I have no trouble identifying with her family.

Not only is this book hilarious, but if you are a parent it is also therapeutic, it helps me feel sane and reassures me that all the trials and tribulations my kids put me through are a normal part of raising kids. A must read for parents but I think most people would find this funny.

Got mine today and am halfway through it. It sometimes makes me laugh so hard that I spit things across the room. I think I relate so well cause I have 2 boys... ages 3 and 7. And yes, almost every story resonates. LOVE it!!!! Love the blog, love the book, love this mama and like to pretend we are friends!

This book has me laughing right along with her. Or at least I hope she can look back and laugh! I am reminded with every story of something my own kids did. She captures the trials and joys of motherhood beautifully. Well, at least hilariously!

It's A Crappy Success! I have been a Crappy Pictures fan for a while and thought parenting couldn't get funnier... until I read the book! Thank you Amber Dusick for putting into crappy pictures what parents everywhere are experiencing... except your version is so much funnier!

I had to put on My Little Pony and hide in the den to read as much as I could. I nearly peed myself multiple times, and had tears streaming down my face from laughing so hard. Especially the roadside poop. OMG. As a mom of a 6 year old singleton and 5 year old spontaneous triplets, I can relate to her feelings, and her stories. I have some doozies of my own. ;) I've always enjoyed Amber's blog, but having the book on hand is so worth it. My only complaint is that I wished it was longer, with more crappy pictures. Oh, and I was a little disappointed that she only calls her family "crappy" because of their pictures being crappy. My kids are pretty crappy without the pictures, LOL!

My "crappy" boy kept asking me why I was laughing as I read this book. My only complaint is that it was too short.

I've been reading Amber Dusick's blog for some time, so I was thrilled when I learned that she was working on a book. A true delight for parents, this book is full of hilarious stories and extra crappy pictures. My only complaint is that I read it one sitting - it's that good!

This book was like a glimpse into my life. I have a feeling the majority of moms will feel the sam way. Definately a must read!

I have enjoyed this author's blog for several years now and her book is just as funny as her blog. Even if you read her blog there is a ton of new/different material included in the book so it is definitely worth the purchase! This book is going to become my go to for presents until all of my friends/family have a copy :) And it is going to become my new staple baby shower gift. Great read, Great buy!
