Overview

This opening fold-out contains a general map of Paris to help you visualize the 8 large districts discussed in this guide, and 4 pages of valuable information, handy tips and useful addresses.

Discover Paris through 8 districts and 6 maps

Latin Quarter/ The islands/ Montparnasse Orsay/ Louvre/ Opera Les Halles/ Le Marais Invalides/ Champ-de-Mars/ Trocadero Grands Boulevards/ Montmarte Bastille/ Faubourg Saint-Antoine/ Oberkampf Menilmontant/ Belleville/ La Villette Place d’Italie/ Bibliotheque Nationale/ Bercy

For each district there is a double-page of addresses (restaurants — listed in ascending order of price — cafés, bars, music venues and stores) followed by a fold-out map for the relevant area with the essential places to see (indicated on the map by a star *). These places are by no means all that Paris has to offer but to us they are unmissable. The grid-referencing system (A B2) makes it easy for you to pinpoint addresses quickly on the map.

Transportation and hotels in Paris
The last fold-out consists of a transportation map and 4 pages of practical information that include a selection of hotels.
A thematic index lists all the sites and addresses featured in this guide.

Good little pocket guide for Paris with illustrative map.

I bought this book because we're spending 3 days in Paris this summer. The pop-up map is just what I wanted. Also, I like the information about the 8 districts. This will be a great book for my library if I go again or to loan to a friend.

Highly Recommended - No need for any other map

This was the only map that I used for a recent trip to Paris and it was perfect. The metro map in the back was perfect for figuring out stops and connections and the fold out maps were easy to use without being an obvious tourist. The places to easy were easy to locate one the different sections of the map. Highly recommend you purchase this if you are going to Paris.

    An excellent piece.....

We are so glad that we found this booklet on your shelf. It is enormously helpful to us in preparing for our two-week visit to Paris and to have the attractions on the same page with the map of where each is.

    Tiny Treasure Very Helpful!

Knopf continuously puts out great guidebooks for major cities. The book fits easily into a small day sack containing section by section maps. When you first open the book you will see Paris separated into sections by color and labeled by district. Each section illustrates a district with favorite restaurants, tearooms, concerts & shopping. The page folds up to display an enlarge map of that specific district highlighting other key spots with streets clearly labeled! This guide has been a huge help for me when visiting new cities. I highly recommend!

    Great for overview of Paris

This map-based book worked for me. I had a general understanding of the layout of Paris already so this book helped me to find general locations. It contained general information about many landmarks. It is light-weight and didn't take up much space, which was an important consideration for me.

    more from this reviewer

Very handy format and comprehensive detail

I bought this book for my college-age daughter studying abroad and living in Paris for the first time. She loves the clever way that it's laid out with a map for each area that folds out in place. After a couple of weeks using the book, she said "The book is amazing... very clever and very user friendly, also incredibly efficient you can look things up easily without having to spend forever orienting yourself. The thing I like best about it is it shows you street names and metro stop names while most maps have a street map on one side and a metro map on the other. Having them together makes it easier to plan out where you need to go from the metro exit. I guess the only minus is that it doesn't indicate the metro line for each stop obviously but that's not hard to look up so it doesn't really matter. All in all its a great book, especially for a young person exploring the city."

    Visiting Paris

We just returned from France and spent 3 days in Paris. The Knopf Paris Guide was amazing along with the AAA Spiral guide to France. The Knopf Map Guide sectioned off every area of Paris for you and had every steet listed on the little maps. What a relief! The restaurants, sites and shopping were very helpful and if you wanted something different , you would never feel stranded because the maps were right in front of you. I am still wondering how they got all of the street names on the maps so you could actually read them! The best thing was, it was small enough to keep in your purse and pull out when necessary. Practice a little before you go, so you can figure out how one map works in with the other. If you are ever going to visit a major city, this is definitely the guide to have!

    Best Pocket Guide

With the flip up maps of different neighborhoods you will never use another map again. After years of trying all the guide books and maps out there this is the one I constantly take with me to Paris. The small size means it fits easily in pocket or handbag. The other titles on other cities are just as useful.
