This book begins with a basic definition of parrots, traits that differentiates parrots from other birds and a definition and diagram of their place in the order of living things. The bulk of the book consists of descriptions of the different parrot families with examples. Various types of parrots found on different continents are described, including a full-page photo of the parrot along with several paragraphs describing what that particular parrot eats, its habitat and how it interact with humans. Rauzon includes information about which parrots have been hunted to near extinction and what people have done to counteract the problem. The book does an excellent job of describing the natural habitats of parrots in the wild, which parrots make good pets and what people can do to help protect parrots in the wild. It includes a glossary, sources for more information and an index. Part of the "Animals in Order" series. 2001, Franklin Watts, . Ages 8 to 12. Reviewer: Danielle Williams
