Children's Literature - Melissa Rife
When Norah and Darcy create a mock website for a detective agency for school, they have no idea concerning the mischief that is about to fall into their laps. Although the web site isn't real, someone really wants their help and sends them a mysterious email asking them to find their sister. After first finding the source of the anonymous email within their class, they begin to work a real case and search for a real missing person. In the process of investigating, they also get to know more about their classmates, from fashionista Fiona Fanning to class crush Zane Munro. Harrington does an excellent job creating a mystery that is easy enough for younger readers to follow, but actually builds throughout the book to a real life solution. In spite of occasional unnecessary scenes, the vocabulary is simple and the dialogue is realistic for the age group. The biggest complaint would be that there is a subplot left with a loose end. Although this seems to be intended to lead the reader into the next book in the series, it feels more like a subplot that is left unsolved. There isn't enough information about the subplot to draw the reader to the next book and there is also too little for it to be a fleshed-out subplot in this book alone. Overall, the book is entertaining and a great beginning of a new series for young girls. Reviewer: Melissa Rife
