I subscribe to Jack's weekly column 'leatherviews,' because his comments are always insightful and to the point. And reading this book in some ways is like reading an extended version of his column. Through it all his comments at times are half common sense and half advice. You almost catch yourself scratching your head and saying 'Yeah that makes sense, why didn't I think of that?' As he discusses BDSM relationships, he devoted chapters to topics relating to them. Among them? Well Jack starts off with a chapter on 'leather vocabulary,' pointing out the various titles each of us use for specific SM activities and how those can changes from person to person. There's a great chapter called 'Archetypes of SM relationships,' where he talks about various 'types' of relationships: Master/slave, Daddy/boy, Top/bottom, etc. I really liked Jack devoted a chapter to 'knowing yourself' and 'knowing what you want' in a SM partner. Advice a lot of us don't always follow but should. Other chapters discuss the pros and cons of monogamy versus polygamy, the concept of 'clubs' and 'leather families,' and relationship problems (he calls them 'elephants in the room'). This is not a 'how-to SM book,' there are plenty of those on the market already, this is more of a how to successfully handle leather scene relationships.
