Overview

Does it sometimes seem like you and your spouse are on two different planets when it comes to raising your kids? Do you feel annoyed that your partner isn't acting the "right way"-or doing his or her fair share?

From juggling child care to dividing up housework, the many stressful decisions that come with having a baby can erode even the strongest marriages. Now, in Partnership Parenting, leading researchers Dr. Kyle Pruett and Dr. Marsha Kline Pruett reveal how men and women naturally parent differently-and what can be gained by both approaches. While mothers tend to protect, offer help, and pull their kids close, fathers tend to push children toward exploration and independence. In fact, not always being on exactly the same page with your spouse-which on the surface may cause conflict-can actually strengthen your whole family.

Partnership Parenting offers couples distinctly balanced ways to deal with everyday situations, from bedtime and feeding to discipline and schooling. You'll learn:

Why kids need the influence of both Dad and Mom

How to create a positive, nurturing co-parenting environment

Why couples should avoid splitting tasks 50/50

The rules for healthy negotiation, effective communication, and "fighting fair"

How to appreciate your partner's contributions and keep intimacy thriving in your relationship

Throughout the book, you'll find anecdotes, quizzes, questions, and solutions to jump-start conversation with your partner. With wisdom and humor, Partnership Parenting helps you and your spouse take advantage of your individual strengths to stay connected, improve your marriage, and confidently raise children-together.

    Great For New Parents

I became a mother 2 months ago, and have already found this book the be more help than I could ever have imagined. It has taught me to accept help from those around me, and more importantly is showing me the value of how my husband parents our son. It has allowed me to breathe a little easier when things aren't happening exactly as I would like, or exactly the way I would do them myself. Definitely worth a read for any parent, especially new parents or parents of young children.
