Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Myrna Dee Marler
Kylie Jean is a pretty, petite girl in sixth grade whose goal is to someday be a beauty queen. She is quite the little Southern miss, and while not yet a queen, she is a princess in her family. It probably helps that she is the only girl and her mother is a party queen enabler. When she is not practicing her beauty queen wave, she is planning parties or attending them because she has lots of similar minded girlfriends. At the end of the month she is having her own birthday party and she wants it to be perfect because it is the final in a series. Each chapter is the story of another party with tips at the end for the reader to give her own successful party, i.e., "include games in your party planning." This is a book for affluent young girls whose ultimate goals are not scientific discovery or to become Secretary of State. But a lot can happen between age eleven and adulthood and it never hurts to know how to throw a good party. Kylie Jean seems like a nice young girl who is being raised well by a loving family. The book is appealing with sweet illustrations and lots of information for the prepubescent party giver. Reviewer: Myrna Dee Marler
