Overview

This is the first Pashto dictionary of it kinds that teaches interested Pashtu learners Pashtu words through the use of pictures and interactive activities. The Pashtu Picture Dictionary can be used independently or in conjunction with other teaching materials. Each lesson has been designed based on the National Standards and Backward Design. The authors are currently teaching Pashtu classes at San Diego State University who have extensive knowledge in the area of teaching and curriculum development. An audio CD, produced by the native speakers in both -western and eastern- Pashtu dialects, further supports the learning of the contents to great extent.

Meet the Author

Farid Saydee a native of Afghanistan and an American national is multilingual and speaks Dari, Farsi, English, Pashtu, and Urdu. His extensive teaching experience includes in-depth faculty expertise in teaching elementary and intermediate ...to advanced Pashtu and Dari languages, in a variety of national academic arenas, as well as online sessions on Afghan cultural awareness classes. Latterly he developed curricula and syllabi, textbooks, and today- teaches classes in Afghan cultural issues at San Diego State University (SDSU) in California. In addition, Mr. Saydee completed (a) Curriculum Development and Educational Leadership Training offered by SDSU and Southern Area International Languages Network (SAILN), San Diego, CA; (b) TEFL/TOSEL English Teacher Training offered by SDSU; (c) Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) offered by American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). Currently he is a candidate for Ph.D. Program in Education offered jointly by San Diego State University and Claremont Graduate University As of mid-2010 he is the lead instructor and curriculum developer at SDSU/LARC and working on developing Pashtu and Dari textbooks and other related teaching materials.
Mohammad Zaher Atmar has been born in 1961 in an upper, wealthy, and highly-educated family in Laghman province of Afghanistan. Mr. Atmar has obtained his B.A. degree in engineering from Kabul University in 1985. Mr. Atmar has worked as an instructor at the department of the civil engineering at Kabul University as well as projects manager in governmental and non-governmental institutions. Mr. Atmar is a multilingual and speaks fluently: Pashtu (native), Dari, Farsi, Arabic, and Urdu languages. He has completed curriculum development courses offered by the Language Acquisition Resource Center at SDSU as well as teacher training and lesson plans development by Startalk. Presently he teaches Pashtu language and Afghan culture classes at San Diego State University.
Yama Meerzada is working as a Curriculum Developer / Dari-Pashtu Instructor at the Language Acquisition Resource Center (LARC) at San Diego State University. He has completed curriculum development and teacher training workshops offered by Startalk. Mr. Meerzada has worked as a training assistant with the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan for three years and has been involved in the field of, education, training and development for more than six years. His undergraduate education is in business administration. Currently he is pursuing his master degree in political science at San Diego State University. Mr. Meerzada is multilingual and speaking Dari, English, Pashtu, Urdu, and Arabic.
