Overview

Fr. Paul Robb, spiritual director and psychologist, encourages us to scrutinize our emotions and experiences as we pass through midlife, for during this time the Spirit of God often addresses us. Robb reminds us that midlife is our invitation to change and to grow; it is an opportunity to explore our depths and to expand our spiritual vision and personal perceptions.Drawing on Jesus' image of the seed that must die to produce a new life, Robb shows how the passage through midlife is indeed a time of death and rebirth. Passage Through MidLife demonstrates how one must pass through the stages of denial, anger, grieving, anxiety, and acceptance in order to achieve spiritual maturity and find the light at the end of the tunnel.

Author Bio: Paul Robb received his Ph.D. in psychology from Loyola University in Chicago, where he then taught for a few years. Robb then became the Director of Novices for the Chicago Province of the Society of Jesus. Following that he became a professor of spirituality and ministry at the Jesuit School of Theology in Chicago. In 1971 he founded the Institute for Spiritual Leadership in Chicago. The Institute sponsored a ninemonth program for the education of spiritual directors that was international and ecumenical. It focused on study of the ways God intervenes in our lives, aids toward selfknowledge, and the art and skills of spiritual direction. The students, all over 35 years of age, were men and women, lay and religious. Robb's ninemonth course addressed the dynamics and process of conversion at midlife.
