Overview

A gifted young writer makes his literary debut in this haunting and powerful novel about a gay black man grappling with his sins from the past — and with the dream lover who turns out to be the lover from hell.
Victims of domestic abuse know that the violence they suffer at the hands of loved ones is not limited by gender, culture, sexual orientation, or socio-economic status. Now, first-time author Lee Hayes takes this hot-button issue to gripping new levels in a novel that transcends all barriers of sex, class, and race.
"From the outside it looked like the perfect world; exclusive neighborhood, fancy cars, and wealth. If only they knew..."
Everything that looks good isn't good for you. From the outside, Kevin Davis' world leaves nothing to be desired. It is a life of luxury, comfort and money, but never judge a book by its cover. His pretend world hides the verbal, physical and sexual abuse he endures at the hands of his perfect man. Passion Marks finds Kevin entangled in a dark web of love, violence, depravity and torment at the hands of his lover, James Lancaster, the ambitious CEO of a rising Houston software firm. In order to free himself from the cycle of violence, Kevin must overcome his personal demons. In this psychological battle of wills, who will be the ultimate victor?
Building to an unforgettable climax, and peopled by a cast of richly drawn characters — including Kevin's best girlfriend, Danea, and the mercilessly driven James — this is a powerhouse story of tough love from a supremely talented new author.

    Awkward Sensation

I thought this book would be extremely depressing, but I bought it because I was intrigued by the plot. I had to smile at the parts when the male characters checked each other out, because as a woman, I look at the same things. I didn't expect the humor and sarcasm to be present, which made the characters more vivid and cracked a smile on my face more than a few times. I didn't care for RaChelle's character but she was as real as everybody else. I'd be telling secrets if I go any further, but I will say I liked everything in this book, including the sex scenes (which I usually hate to read). Hayes knows how to write a scene so it's arousing instead of vulgar like SOME AUTHORS I know. But, he did start getting a little corny with Daryl. If I read 'with love' one more time, I'd have groaned up a lung.

    Great read!

Loved the story, except for the ending. It felt rushed and was sort of lame.

An Amazing and well written read

The first of two books in this series. The storyline focuses on a problem that is often swept under the rug in the african-american community... domestic abuse. This time it's in the life of a gay man. Definitely recommended reading. Fans of E. Lynn Harris and James Earl Hardy will love this.

    Loved It!!!

This was the first time I read a book by a black gay author (I know I am late lol) Loved the story. It was a book that could not put down. I remember taking a break like I am going ot finish just this chapter and go do something else. And as soon as that chapter was over I was like damn what happens next. Hope he will be around for a long time because I will be a avid reader.

    An Astounding Author- Lee Hayes!

This is a MUST read! I could not put it down! The author has a way of introducing the characters and you feel as if you really know them! Although physical and emotional abuse are quite sad. We must admit, abuse is very real! And Lee has done a great job conveying this to his readers! It's good to see yet 'another' talented author! To you Mr. Hayes, thanks for a job well done! I look forward to reading more about you and your aspiring career!

    A OUTSTANDING first novel

This book is very captivating, & I wasn't surprised that I read it in only 2 days. Passion Marks is a very intriguing look into the world of domestic violence & the hold that love has on different people. Mr. Hayes has succeeded in bringing to light the many trials & tribulations of abusive relationships. Kevin & James both had demons to battle Kevin with the death of his brother & James with the death of his mother & father. Although Kevin wanted to be free, he was being held down by both James' fist & his brother Keevan spirit. This book should serve as a wakeup call for anyone in a relationship, not just those in the GLBT community. Good show, Mr. Lee Hayes. Can't wait to read Passion Marks II!

    A reviewer

It's wasn't nothing passion about this book. It starts off with a** kicking and ends in a** kicking. But I must say the author brings you in and don't let go until the end. I'm very open minded but I just can't see a man beening as weak as Kevin is. I wasn't feeling the pain he was feeling about his twin brother because he did him wrong before his death. But with all the drama that his partner put on him was over the top to me. I couldn't get over the part where Kevin talks about these married man cheating on their partners. But he turns around and sleeps with his boss without using a condom and don't tell her that he is gay. Oh! I forgot that he and her went to school together and he thought she know this. But do that exercise his actions? The author makes Kevin out as the victim but turns the table and makes him a man with low self esteem with a lot of drama mixed in one. As a avid reader I would like less drama and give us more substance.

I LOVE YOU BUT I BEAT UP ON YOU- IS THAT LOVE

Wonderful and Outstanding, are two very important words I can use to describe this book. It was wonderful because it was a page turner and it held my attention through out the entire book. It was oustanding because you think yoy might know what may happen next but you don't. I would of just shot the horrible character in the end and turned my self in to the police and went to jail, but it's a twist you would't believe. This book is wonderful.. I just hate I read it so fast.. Dang.. Just rremember KARMA is real...

    SENSATIONAL READ

I just finished reading Passion Marks, and I must say, this book really had me going. I have been in a gay relationship for all of my adult life, 21 years to be exact, and I must say, I never really took the time to think about domestic violence in a gay relationship. This book opened my eyes!

A WHOLE LOTTA TWIST AND TURNS

HOLD ON TO YOUR SEATS, BECAUSE THIS BOOK IS GOING TO TAKE YOU FOR A RIDE. WHEN I READ THE JACKET OF THIS BOOK, I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE HARD TO GET THROUGH. BUT BOY WAS I WRONG, THAT IS WHY YOU NEVER JUDGE THINGS FROM THE OUTSIDE. HAYES DOES A WONDERFUL JOB OF TAKING YOU DEEP INSIDE THE DARK WORLD OF DOMESTIC ABUSE. I WAS SHOCKED AND SURPRISED, BECAUSE YOU ALWAYS THINK OF A WOMAN IN ABUSE CASES. THIS WAS A REAL EYE OPENER FOR ME. I CAN'T SAY ENOUGH GOOD THINGS ABOUT THIS BOOK. FROM THE BEGINNING TO THE END, YOU WILL LOVE THIS BOOK. LEE HAYES, YOU HIT A HOME RUN YOUR FIRST TIME OUT.

    Phenomenal work!

Hayes has done a great job of bringing the lives of gay men to the forefront without sensationalizing gay stereotypes. Domestic violence in the gay community has long been something that wasn't really spoken about. Hayes has done a wonderful job showing what goes on in the mind of an abuser and the victim, and even the dynamics between loved ones. I couldn't put this book down!!!
