Publishers Weekly
A spurned wife confronts her profligate husband in Heath's dramatic Victorian romance series launch. Claire Lyons travels to London from her three-year exile in the country to ask her husband, the earl of Westcliffe, to allow her to stay in town for her sister's first Season. Westcliffe believes Claire cheated on him with his brother, but he reluctantly admires her tenacity, charm, and forthright nature. Romantic tension between the pair is heightened by the frequent appearances of Westcliffe's mistress, Anne, and her machinations to lure him away from Claire. Plenty of other twists and turns appear en route to the passionate conclusion. Complex, emotional romance and a hint of mystery complete this tale, which will have readers eagerly anticipating the next installment.

Meet the Author

Lorraine Heath always dreamed of being a writer. After graduating from the University of Texas, she wrote training manuals, press releases, articles, and computer code, but something was always missing. When she read a romance novel, she not only became hooked on the genre, but quickly realized what her writing lacked: rebels, scoundrels, and rogues. She's been writing about them ever since. Her work has been recognized with numerous industry awards, including RWA's prestigious RITA®. Her novels have appeared on the USA Today and New York Times bestseller lists.

The story picks up three years after their wedding day. They have been living apart during this time after Morgan found his blushing bride in bed with his brother Stephen. Morgan has been living in London and conducting many affairs and flaunting to the ton his many paramours. While Claire lives in exile on the country estate Morgan owns. Morgan is still pretty angry at Claire and his brother Stephen. In the three years since the debacle start to her marriage Claire has grown up and realizes her mistake in not speaking to Morgan about her fears. She shows up in London hoping that Morgan would give her another chance to truly be a wife and forgive her for her youthful mistake. She also wants his help in preparing her younger sister for her first season. She has promised to help her sister find a husband so she is not force to marry someone their father have chosen who is considerably older. Morgan grudgingly agrees to help prepare for the season in return he plans to divorce Claire so that he can marry his current paramour who is a widow. As the two work together they begin to realize the mistakes they both made. We gradually see them learning things about one another and slowly falling in love and trusting each other. They're new found trust is put to the test that will either break them or bring them closer. I really enjoyed the story of Morgan and Claire Lyons. I like the fact that lead couple are already married. Lorraine does a great job of having the story unfold slowly allowing the readers to follow in Morgan and Claire's discovery of one another. Morgan is a great hero. He acknowledges that there were things he could have done so that Claire felt comfortable enough to come talk to him prior to the wedding night. I love the interactions that he had with his dog. It allowed the readers and Claire to see a softer side of him. I wanted to slap him towards the end there but he did make up for his stubbornness. As for Claire she was great. I loved how she didn't let Morgan push her around. She definitely stood up for herself. You could really see her caring for Morgan and doing things to try and win Morgan back. There were some other great secondary characters that made the book enjoyable. I can't wait for the next book in the series about Stephen. Love to see how he grows up since he's a bit self absorbed during this book. Can't wait to see where Morgan's moms affair with the younger man heads and I definitely want to know more about the other younger brother Ainsley. If your looking for a great historical with a great storyline then pick this book up. You won't regret it. Great start to this new series! Loved it.

PASSIONS OF A WICKED EARL by Lorraine Heath is a wonderful exciting historical romance set in 1853 London. It is the beginning of a new series "The Notorious Gentlemen".It is well written with depth, details, fast paced and page turning. It has romance, suspense, sweet sensuality, family, misunderstandings, fear, trust issues, pride, responsibility, bad judgment, betrayal, deceit, and love. The hero, Morgan, the Earl of Westcliffe, is handsome, a cad, wicked, has a quick temper, and has a wife he exiled to his country estate three years earlier for her betrayal on their wedding night. He is the oldest of three brothers. One of which is by his step father and is also a titled Duke. The heroine, Claire, is beautiful, naive, marries young, innocent, laughs often, makes a bad judgment call on her wedding night, returns fully grown and determined to make Morgan, her estranged husband, love her again. Claire, was married at a young age, and terrified of her wedding night, for she feared Morgan. They where betrothed before Claire was even born. She grow up around him and his brothers, but didn't know him. Morgan felt he had responsibilities, for his father had died and he didn't have time for play and fun. But he had always noticed the young Claire. On their wedding night, young Stephan, Morgan's youngest brother and friend to Claire finds her crying in her bedchamber. She tells him she is terrified of her wedding night, so he decides to help him. He jumps into bed with her, while fully clothed, when Morgan comes to the bedchamber and finds them. Morgan's temper flies. He doesn't listen to anything either has to say, especially Claire. He sends her to his country estate. She stays their for three years, fixing up the estate. Until her younger sister needs a Season in London. Then she goes to Morgan for his help in presenting her to society. Claire has heard of his infidelities, while she has had none, she is still a virgin, but is determined to make their marriage work. After three years she has grown up and become a beautiful, self assured woman. Sparks fly between Claire and Morgan for she is no longer the scared young lady of him and can stand up for herself. In the meantime, Morgan's mistress, can't stand to lose him and she knows she is. She creates trouble between them and once again Morgan will not listen to Claire, and she is carted off to the country estate where tragedy happens. Claire and Morgan learn to trust one another again and Morgan learns he does have a heart and is capable of love after all. I would recommend this book especially if you enjoy Regency England, the twists and turns of life, the joy of being loved and the complex relationship between husband and wife. This story about an earl who keeps finding his wife in his brothers arms is a little repetitive. It was fairly good but not the kind of book you will pick up in a year or two and want to read again. So my advice would be---get this one from the library if your a LH fan and must read it.
