Nicola was the former vocal half of the electronic duo Mandalay, who gave us amazing tunes like This Life, Flowers Bloom and Beautiful. After the sad split of Mandalay, she's flying high solo and has released a gorgeous album of masterfully produced electronic collaborations that feature her amazing angelic vocals and sensitive, soulful lyrics, that are combined with some impressive knob-twirling talent. Wonderful electronic productions feature throughout, some with a laid-back, jazzy vibe and others more upbeat, but all with Nicola's pure vocal tones (she has the most stunningly sensitive vibrato controls I've ever heard). Working with the likes of Hector Zazou, Ryuichi Sakamoto Lenny Ibizarre, and others, has resulted in a wonderfully varied and textured, yet flowing album. Visit her site to check out more about this beautiful siren.

This CD is the American release of Passive Aggressive, already loved by so many in the UK. What sets this CD apart from the UK version is the bonus tracks "I FORGIVE ME (ACOUSTIC)" and "EVERYTHING". Everything is another lovely ambient track, a trademark example of what we love about Nicolas work.. But I FORGIVE ME (ACOUSTIC) is truly stunning. Is this the new direction that she will take..? Simply beautiful. It has some fabulous guitar and cello playing on it from her musicians Patrick Orchard (guitar) and Caroline Lavelle (cello). This version of the CD is worth getting for this track alone... more of the same please miss Hitchcock!

...some tracks sound a bit too much like Mandalay. I was hoping for something a bit different. This album is still amazing and Nicola's voice is as haunting and airy as it needs to be, without being annoying. Buy this CD from Barnes and Noble (and if you're reading this, you probably are going to anyway) because it comes with a great bonus track, "I Forgive Me (acoustic)", which I think sounds better than the regular version.

Nicola's voice is ethereal, soothing, comforting, mesmerizing. The music behind her is beautiful, ambient... it doesn't overpower her. I was sad to hear Mandalay broke up but so happy that Nicola is continuing her career.
