Overview

Based in part on a true event, Past Imperfections tells the story of Leslie Brinkerman, a woman struggling with Obsessive Compulsive Behavior. Her rituals and routines have defined her adult life, preventing her from moving away from a small upstate New York town or daring to take a chance on intimate relationships. But when she inadvertently learns about a long-dead great aunt, who had been confined to an “insane asylum” as a young woman nearly a century earlier for a similar condition and left there to die, Leslie is determined to try to overcome the worst of her limiting fears as a way of honoring her aunt’s memory. She summons up her courage and with the aid of a combination of therapy and medication, moves to California to begin a new life near her closest childhood friend. Leslie’s life becomes increasingly complex but images of Aunt Grace and her lack of options push her toward personal success.
