Faster than light travel, it’s impossible, that is until Aiden and his girl friend Jess prove the theory wrong one night. The world changes drastically with most of its people seemingly gone and the ability to use magic returned. Aiden must struggle against the changes he has unknowingly created, and try to get it back the way it was, or at the least, save everyone who has been taken.

With a mixture of both old science and new magic he fights against nature, and father time itself to fix what went wrong, while trying to survive the destruction of everything we hold dear, even humanity.

This short story is my Debut. The 3 following stories are already up and ready for your reading pleasure. Every story is a stand alone tale, however, if you read them out of order they won't make as much sense as they could, since they all tie together in some way.

Thank you for reading. Please find the followup short entitled PRESENT JUMPER here on Smashwords and on Amazon.

Meet the Author

Born in a time before computers I had to use my imagination to keep me away from chores. Now that I am older, that same imagination comes in very handy with my writing. And I have always had an interest in writing. Even since grade school. However, I never really gave it a lot of thought in my youth...That is until the very early spring of 2006.

I had just finished reading a story that frustrated me and I wondered if I could make a book that I would like to read. So I sat down at my computer, and decided to put some thoughts to the screen.

A few hours later, and after some pestering from my wife about what I could possibly be doing, I had the beginnings of chapter 1 of one of my first books. But I had a lot to learn. Since that time, I have put that one aside at around 50,000 words. Put aside, but not forgotten.

All of a sudden I had so many stories rushing to get out, I had to get them down! I started my second work and completed it, topping out at about 96k words. You can grab it now, entitled -The Event- in paperback ,or in E-Book format. I've started on the sequel entitled -Pockets of Paradise- when the editing of other works gets too rough.

I have many short stories up on Amazon for you to check out, complete, in a handy collection available for free. Or grab one of my other stories from the Future Jumper series available now, with the fifth in the series, just released, in e-book format, or grab the entire collection in paperback!

If you like some of the free works, be sure to check out my latest story, Mirror Thief, available now in paperback or e-book on Amazon. You will never look at your own reflection in quite the same way again.
Thank you for taking the time to check up on me. Should you be interested in more, please stop in at my blog. JamieHeppner.blogspot.com or find me on twitter @scorpedo or on www.facebook/jamieheppner

This is a very interesting read. It's short, less than 9k words, but it introduces you to a dystopian world by raising questions that often go tactfully unanswered. You're often left to ponder and make guesses with the clues you have, and I like that sort of reading. The end really came to soon, but that's sort of expected for a short story like this. You want more, and Heppner is working on delivering just that. I can't help but wonder if these mini books wouldn't serve better as a full novel, but I obviously don't know what Heppner has in mind for the series. There were some editing errors that I couldn't help but notice -- missing spaces, wrong words, the occasional missing word. But I don't think most readers care much about this sort of thing. It's not exactly glaring. Because this is short, you only get a real look into two characters and a delightful, loyal dog. However, that focus was necessary to build these characters in the short space, and I enjoyed learning more about them. I can say that, thanks to some good writing, an interesting story, and the fact that it's a quick read, you will probably really enjoy this.
