Selected Quotes from Patches of Godlight
None can love freedom heartily but good men; the rest love not freedom, but license.
Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on thee . . .
God does not give us overcoming life; He gives us life so we overcome. The strain is the strength. Are you asking God to give you life and liberty and joy? He cannot, unless you will accept the strain. Immediately you face the strain, you will get the strength.
—Oswald Chambers, “My Utmost for His Highest”
As is our confidence, so is our capacity.
Civilization and violence are antithetical concepts.
—Martin Luther King, Jr.
What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.
—Ralph Waldo Emerson
The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
One man with courage makes a majority.
The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion.
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
Courage is not having the strength to go on; it is going on when you don’t have the strength. Industry and determination can do anything that genius and advantage can do and many things that they cannot.

I keep "Patches of Godlight" with my Bible & my devotionals & I read in it for daily inspiration. I love all the Mitford novels as well, but "Patches", although presented as the jottings of a fictional character, is not a novel. It is an amazing collection of wonderful quotes from great people that lift the spirit & inspire the soul.

I have "Patches" in a hard copy that I keep at home, and this gives me the opportunity to carry it with me as I travel. I enjoy randomly opening the book to see what nugget of wisdom I can mull over each day.Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Father Tim's Favorite Quotes inspire me. The book reminds me that ministers also some times struggle for understanding and strength. A book to be treasured for years to come. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.

I have been a Mitford fan for a long time. I read the first four books in the series, and anxiously awaited the next visit with all of my favorite characters in Mitford. I have been disappointed in the last three books, and I hate this! Patches of Godlight did have some of my favorite quotes from the first books, but after several pages, it seemed to be the same thing, over and over. The 'coffee stains' in the book were not in color, which would have made the book more like Father Tim's journal. And crumbs of the famous Orange Marmalade cake might have perked it up also. I thought the book, without the dust jacket, was very nice. I am glad I was lucky enough to find this book for a very nominal price- I personally would not have spent the retail price for this one. I am hoping Karon's next book will be more like the original Mitford books.
