Overview

Created in 2006, The Hamilton Project at the Brookings Institution advances innovative ideas to promote America's long-term economic growth, provide for broad-based participation in that growth, and enhance the economic security of American families. Its premise is that securing economic growth and economic security are mutually reinforcing objectives, as growth is stronger and more sustainable when people are freer to take risks, able to bounce back from hardship, and less inclined to protectionism. While free markets are the cornerstone of economic growth, there is a necessary role for robust government action to achieve these goals. In Path to Prosperity, the first book to emerge from this ambitious program, a group of America's best economic minds propose policy ideas on three topics essential to broad-based economic growth: improving income security, building a highly skilled workforce, and reforming the tax system.
