This book describes various successful and not-so-successful approaches taken in implementing modern patient care information systems. The authors also support the theory that properly implemented patient care systems can have a positive impact on quality and cost effectiveness.
Purpose: The purpose is to present relevant information to healthcare professionals in various capacities who want to expand their knowledge of patient care systems. This book is part of a series that covers current systems, innovations, and emerging trends. The author's objectives of providing an understandable overview of patient information systems have been met.
Audience: This book is intended for healthcare industry professionals in all disciplines and experience levels to increase their understanding of information systems. In my judgment, all healthcare professionals could benefit from the information contained in this book to make system implementations more successful. The authors have done an excellent job of researching the subject and conveying it to the readers. The authors have researched the material and presented it in a logical and understandable manner.
Features: The quality and pertinence of the illustrations for the most part did not add significantly to the understanding of the material presented. The overall appearance of the book is good, and I found the content to be exceptional, as the authors have focused on real issues related to healthcare information systems.
Assessment: This book is an excellent information source for those healthcare professionals wanting to expand their knowledge of the success factors required to implement modern patient care systems. There are exceptional reference materials used throughout the book that are presented in a clear concise manner. The book contains a wealth of information for developing patient care information systems strategies and implementation plans. The book has avoided the technical confusion associated with most patient information management guides and therefore will be understood by most audiences. I would recommend this book to executive level management in order to gain an understanding of, and commitment to, the benefits of patient information systems to the quality and cost effectiveness of the organization.
