Overview

Patrick expelled at the age of fifteen from a private boys academy in San Francisco embarks a year later on a life time of adventure and two romances. One relatioship producing a son he never knew and a second resulting in heart rending, but short lived disappointment.

His exploits bring him into contact with a renegade band of Indian's led by the ruthless "Black Sun" who is torturing a young Texas Ranger. A term in Yuma Territorial Prison for a crime he never committed and heroic voluntary service in the Spanish American War are interwoven with escapades involving Jaco Braun.

Jaco's harsh upbringing on a rancho in Mexico pushes him into an early lawless life. He cannot decide whether he wants to be the "Robin Hood" of Mexico or lead life as he chooses generally ignoring the laws and rights of others.

His one opportunity for a normal ife and matrimony is ruined by a jealous suitor who discloses Jaco's identity and whereabouts to the authorities. Hunted and captured by the Federales, he is incarcerated in the infamous prison at Mulege. His daring escape and search for revenge against the informer and a brutal Federales officer results in a final climatic shootout. Both young men finally find the tranquility they have sought, in a way they could not have imagined.

Patrick seems destined to heartbreak, lost opportunity, good deeds and a final experiend to an unforseen conclusion.

D. E. Leas grew up in Wisconsin. He served in the Air force on Guam and Tokyo. Graduated from Spencerian College with a BBA degree. Retired in Northern California on a small acerage with his wife Jackie where they bred and raised Arabian and Quarter horses.
