The corrupt Earth government is sending an army to Greenwood to remove the pioneers who discovered and settled the planet: the potential profits are too great to leave the world to scraggly ne’er-do-wells!

Though the rugged individualists of Greenwood may be fractious and disinclined to agree on most things, the greedy politicians of Earth will learn a harsh lesson if they think the settlers won’t join together to save their livelihoods and homes! Under Yerby Bannock, who never walked away from a drink or a fight, the Greenwood patriots will face thugs in the night, lawyers in a distant court, traitors in their own ranks—

I thought it was pretty good, but not David Drake's best. I did

I thought it was pretty good, but not David Drake's best. I did like the history angle.

This book is an amazing departure from David Drake's usual work.

This book is an amazing departure from David Drake's usual work. Take Ethan Allen and The Green Mountain Boys, and place them in a futuristic, scifi setting. This book shows that some stories and human characteristics are timeless! This retelling places ordinary people in ectraordinaru situations and they rise to the occasion. A great tale!

A good read for a snow bound day

This is a good read but I think the plot has been done to death. Evil government, good pioneers. Let's have a bit of variation please.

    rvew Patriot

I've read most of David Drakes offerings and I have enjoyed them from beginning to end - Unfortunately this offering is in no way up to Mr Drakes normal standards - it droops in plot line (old and tired) character development (just not there) the characters don't become likeable friends you are on a journey with - the actual style of writing is off from Mr Drakes other books - I bought this book because it had David Drake's name on it - in the future I will no longer buy a book with his name on it blindly - I'll actually flip through and read a page or two - this was unnecessary in the past I'm saddened its necessary in the future

    Expected better

I buy books not only by authors I like but also based on reviews, both literary and by readers. As a result I rarely read a book that would score less than 7 on a scale of 1 to 10. This book I struggled to get through. I love SciFi especially about space exploration and colonization but I found this book okay at best. Very little excitement. Oh... and I would give it a 4 on a scale of 1 to 10.

    Unexpected Book

Totally forgot that I gad ordered this book. I have enjoyed many books by this author. I did not like the history reference as that was part of the joy of reading this author was figuring out what battle or war he was writining about. Overall a good book.

    A young man's adventure

David Drake has another winner in this adaptation of historical events. In Patroits, Mark Lucius graduated college and decided to take a year off to explore the Frontier. Unfortunately, Mark's imaged Frontier falls very short of reality, at least until meets Yerby Bannock a settler from Greenwood.
