Overview

This quintessential guide to patternmaking offers comprehensive coverage, clear illustrations and easy-to-follow instructions, providing users with all the relevant information necessary to create design patterns with accuracy regardless of their complexity. Covers the three steps in the development of design patterns—dart manipulation, added fullness, and contouring—with a central theme that all designs are based on one, or more of these three major patternmaking and design principles. Includes a fashion sketch for each project with an analysis of the design, and focuses on pattern plot and manipulation for developing the patterns. Illustrates several methods for knock-offs, and dedicates new sections on fitting corrections for the basic pattern set and the four pant foundation; menswear; patternmaking for bias-cut garments; revised drafting instructions and standard measurement charts; how to modify the bodice to fit the different sizes of bust cups; constructed support for strapless designs, and more. Presents additional and more challenging design projects for the advanced reader. For dressmakers, home sewers, manufacturing companies, and professionals in fashion design and fashion merchandising.

    LOVE this book!

I first used this text in college. I attended a fashion design college in Southern California. I found it easy to follow while in school. I used it again in the fashion industry and found that when in need of a quick referance it was the easiest book to look up. I quit the fashion industry in 1999. I have recently started my own maternity line and have been living out of this book for forgotten patterning skills. I would highly recommend this book to anybody that has a passion for sewing original items. It is easy enough for a beginner to follow, yet detailed enough for a professional to referance. You can create anything from nothing using this book.

Very good text book reference for pattern making.

I have my own garment manufacturer in Indonesia and always wanna learn in professional way in garment pattern-making, instead of depending to my pattern maker. This book is very good, especially for whom already got basic skills in pattern-making. I found difficulties in applying all concept as written in text book due to my background has no related in garment/fashion industry. I am now searching book that will 'teach me' in basic skill for pattern making and go further into this great book. Buy it , you won't regret! Trust me......... From Lim (ithree@cbn.net id)
