About the Author

About The Author
Alexandre Dumas (1802–1870) was a French writer best known for The Count of Monte Cristo, The Three Musketeers, and The Man in the Iron Mask. Born to General Thomas-Alexandre Dumas, a mixed-race hero of Napoleon’s army, Dumas grew up inspired by his father’s rise and fall, shaping his themes of injustice, revenge, and redemption.

Moving to Paris, he found success in theater and historical adventure novels, often drawing from real events. His works, filled with duels, conspiracies, and daring escapes, captivated 19th-century readers. His only Gothic romance, Pauline or Buried Alive (1838), reflects his fascination with mystery and the supernatural, influenced by Byron and Shelley.

Despite fame and fortune, his lavish lifestyle led to financial ruin, yet his literary legacy endured. Dumas remains one of history’s most influential and widely read authors.
