About the Author

Alexandre Dumas (1802–1870) was a French writer best known for The Count of Monte Cristo, The Three Musketeers, and The Man in the Iron Mask. Born to General Thomas-Alexandre Dumas, a mixed-race hero of Napoleon’s army, Dumas grew up inspired by his father’s rise and fall, shaping his themes of injustice, revenge, and redemption.

Moving to Paris, he found success in theater and historical adventure novels, often drawing from real events. His works, filled with duels, conspiracies, and daring escapes, captivated 19th-century readers. Review of the original French Version: Pauline is one of the first novels of Alexandre Dumas, published in 1838. This is his first Gothic novel. The story begins in 1834, when Alexandre Dumas, character of the book and narrator, finds an old friend Alfred de Nerval. This one tells him the astonishing story of Pauline, who died a year ago. The two young men have known her, although Alexander has only a vague memory of her.

Review of the original French Version: Going into this book, I didn't expect Alexandre Dumas to amaze me yet again but he did. I felt for the characters and I honestly didn't know how it would all turn out at the end. Even though, we know how it all ends in the beginning, we don't know why. The story is told in an old fashioned way (probably a popular way when he wrote it at the time). I actually really like this story telling...
