Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Terrorism and a plot to assassinate the president drives the fourth novel in this collaborative, action-packed series. Read by J. Charles. Simultaneous with St. Martin's original mass market paperback. Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.
From the Publisher
"Frighteningly realistic." —Maxim on Liberty

"Gripping...Coonts's naval background and his legal education bring considerable authority to the story, and the narrative is loaded with detailed information about terrorist networks, modern weaponry, and international intrigue...the action is slam-bang" —Publishers Weekly on Liberty

"This master of the techno-thriller spins a bone-chilling worst-case scenario involving international spies, military heroics, conniving politicians, devious agencies, a hijacked nuclear sub, lethal computer hackers, currency speculators, maniac moguls and greedy mercenaries that rivals Clancy for fiction-as-realism and Cussler for spirited action. . . . [Coonts] never lets up with heart-racing jet/missile combat, suspenseful submarine maneuvers and doomsday scenarios that feel only too real, providing real food for thought in his dramatization of the missile-shield debate." —Publishers Weekly (Starred Review) on America

"A high-octane blend of techno-wizardry [and] ultraviolence . . . [Coonts] skillfully captures the postmodern flavor of Hong Kong, where a cell phone is as apt as an AK-47 to be a revolutionary weapon."-USA Today on Hong Kong

"Coonts knows how to write and build suspense. . . this is the mark of a natural storyteller" — The New York Times Book Review on Flight of the Intruder

Don't buy anything from BN. Get a Kindle. Can't read this book on my Nook for Android.

AFTER many, many attempts to get the new " upgrade" on my Nook for Android to work, it still is screwed up. Can't read any of the books I've bought. I've had to buy everything again on Kindle.
BN doesn't seem to care enough to respond.

    Good reading

Of thefour I've read in this series, this is the least thrilling, but still enjoyable. The editor needs to correct the many typos and misspellings in these books. It is the worst I have ever seen and can make reading them a real challenge!

    Terrible job of digitizing.

While the story line and plot were interesting and a good summer read, the digital preparation (or lack thereof)were very distracting. Almost every paragraph had errors in spelling, hyphens, etc. Looks like the editors had the day off when this went through.

    A fascinating thriller

Peruvian general Tecume has concocted a brilliant plan to not only obtain a nuclear weapon, but to bluff the Americans into going after insurgents his outcome is to become the president of Peru. ............... Crippled Stephan Babin owes a lot of people. He is in debt to Tecume for saving his life so is assisting him with his nuclear ploy. However, he hides from the General that his personal agenda is to take the nuclear option one step beyond his Peruvian host. He plans to avenge what the CIA did to him, when they shot down his plane leaving him crippled................. NSA assigns the Deep Black team headed by Charlie Dean to stop the General. The crack squad aided from thousand miles away by their Runner Rockman begin a counter ploy to keep nuclear weapons out of the hands of Tecume and local terrorists, but neither Charlie, his teammate Lia DeFransccesa, nor the home office are aware that the real threat comes from the more dangerous opponent Steve Babin who has armed his host with a second bomb unbeknownst to the Deep Black squad or any American intelligence agency................. The fourth Deep Black adventure thriller is an intriguing tale because just when the team and readers think the case is solved in spite of plenty pages to go, the plot offers a delightful exhilarating twist that ratchets up the suspense levels. The story line is loaded with testosterone action even when the females like Lia take charge. Fans of the series or anyone who appreciates a black ops antiterrorism thriller will receive plenty of positive payback from this adrenaline pumping tale that goes at one speed faster than light.............
