THE BEST FOOTBALL PLAYER EVER, PERIOD.
--Mike Ditka

Walter Payton played running back with a devastating combination of grace and ferocity. Though standing an inch and a half short of six feet and just a shade over two hundred pounds, he led the beleaguered Chicago Bears to a Super Bowl title, broke Jim Brown's career rushing record and won the unconditional love of millions of NFL fans.

Overview

THE BEST FOOTBALL PLAYER EVER, PERIOD.
--Mike Ditka

Walter Payton played running back with a devastating combination of grace and ferocity. Though standing an inch and a half short of six feet and just a shade over two hundred pounds, he led the beleaguered Chicago Bears to a Super Bowl title, broke Jim Brown's career rushing record and won the unconditional love of millions of NFL fans.

How did a small-town daydreamer in Mississippi end up taking the cellar-dwelling Bears from awful to awesome? Walter Payton simply worked harder and with more purpose than any football player in history. And he did it with a smile.

PAYTON captures the life of an on-field superstar who wanted most to be the consummate team player. He was a man who left everything on the field, always put family first and committed himself to giving back to the community. Sweetness indeed.

Includes a DVD with NFL Films' "Pure Payton," a collection of extraordinary highlights of Walter Payton's football career. This DVD--only available here--offers striking, never-before-seen footage of Payton both on and off the field, and completes any serious Bears fan's collection.

Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
They called him "Sweetness." Mississippi born, Chicago Bears running back Walter Payton (1954-99) wasn't the strongest, fastest, or biggest football player who ever lived, but according to fellow Hall of Famer Mike Ditka, that really didn't matter: "He was the best football player I've ever seen, and probably one of the best people I've ever met." This book is a moving tribute to the outgoing, short-lived hero by the people who knew him best: his widow, Connie Norwood Payton; his children, Jarrett and Britney; and his best friend, Matt Suhey.

    Amazing book

Walter Payton is, I think the best football player who ever lived and he is my role model! One of the greatest things about the book is that it doesn't just talk about his football career, it talks about his whole life. I play football and I strive every day to be like Walter Payton. I honor that he was a Christian. I love the pictures in the book, and the DVD is the bomb. I read the book in 10 days. It is on my top 5 books list and will always be thanks to Connie,Jarret and Brittney Payton! Overall I give this book a 5 star rating and reccomend it to anyone!
