On the ostensible title track, "Peace Is Just a Word," Lennox's knowing voice edges toward bleak cynicism as she declares "Stop the world/Just shut it down/There's no point/In it spinning around," while while Dave Stewart's clean production and sure pop sense lays the foundation for another Eurythmics classic, engaging and disturbing all at once. Still, by the album's last track, "Lifted," the Eurythmics offer a tale of optimism and grace, concluding that the p-word has plenty of meaning, after all. "Now you can find peace at last," Lennox sings, conquering the despair she expressed before. And with the duo donating profits from Peace Tour ticket and merchandising sales to Amnesty International and Greenpeace and, in the album liner notes, urging fans to contribute as well the Eurythmics concede conclude that "peace" may be just a word, but a powerful one at that.
