Preface

Peachtree® Complete Accounting 2002 is a comprehensive instructional learning resource. This text has been designed to respond to the growing trend toward adopting Windows® applications and computerizing accounting systems. As a result of this trend, the text provides training using Windows® 95/98/2000 and the popular Peachtree® Complete Accounting 2002 accounting program.

ORGANIZATIONAL FEATURES

Peachtree® Complete Accounting 2002 is organized into three sections. Accounting concepts and their relationship to Peachtree® Complete Accounting 2002 are presented in each chapter. In addition to accounting concepts, students use a fictitious company and receive hands-on training in the use of Peachtree® Complete Accounting 2002 within each chapter. At the end of every chapter, the concepts and applications learned are reinforced by the completion of true/false, multiple-choice, fill-in and essay questions plus an application problem using a different fictitious company. At the end of each section, there is a comprehensive practice set that reviews all the concepts and applications presented within the section. The final practice set is a comprehensive problem utilizing all of the major concepts and transactions presented within the textbook.

The first section introduces students to the computer, Windows® and Peachtree® Complete Accounting 2002 for a service business. The second section of the text focuses on merchandising businesses. The third section of the book concentrates on payroll and creating a company usingPeachtree®.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURE

Throughout the text, emphasis has been placed on the use of Peachtree® Complete Accounting 2002's innovative approach to recording accounting transactions based on a business form rather than using the traditional journal format. This approach, however, has been correlated to traditional accounting through adjusting entries, end-of-period procedures, and use of the "behind the scenes" journals.

Unlike many other computerized accounting programs, Peachtree® Complete Accounting 2002 is user-friendly when corrections and adjustments are required. The ease of corrections and the ramifications as a result of this ease are explored thoroughly.

The text provides extensive assignment material in the form of tutorials, end-of-chapter questions (true/false, multiple-choice, fill-in and essay), and comprehensive practice sets.

Students develop confidence in recording business transactions using an up-to-date commercial software program designed for small to midsize businesses. With thorough exploration of the program in the text, students should be able to use Peachtree® Complete Accounting 2002 in the "real world" at the completion of the textbook training.

Students will explore and use many of the features of Peachtree® Complete Accounting 2002, including recording transactions, applying customer and vendor discounts, tracking inventory, ordering merchandise, preparing a multitude of reports and closing an accounting period. Peachtree® Complete Accounting 2002 features integration with Microsoft Excel is explored.

In the last practice set, students will have an opportunity to create the computerized records for a company. They will then record transactions, print reports ....et al.

COURSES

Peachtree® Complete Accounting 2002 is designed for a one-term course in microcomputer accounting or for use in any accounting course requiring introductory work on a integrated computerized accounting package. Students should be familiar with the accounting cycle and , how it is related to service and merchandising businesses. No prior knowledge of or experience with computers, Windows, or Peachtree® Complete Accounting 2002 is required.

SUPPLEMENTS FOR THE INSTRUCTOR

Solutions Manual and Teaching Guide with Tests contains a comprehensive answer key to all questions, exercises and practice sets. All computer assignments are printed in full and included for use in grading or as a student answer key. In addition to answers to text assignments, the Solutions Manual and Teaching Guide with Tests for Peachtree® Complete Accounting 2002 contains master data files for all the companies in the text, a sample course outline, lectures for each chapter, written exams for each section, and suggestions for grading.
