Pearl Harbor: America's Darkest Day

Overview

December 7th was just another sun-washed dawn in Honolulu. The men and women of Pearl Harbor prepared for a routine day at the naval base. Pearl Harbor is a gripping account of the political, social, and military landscape leading up to that infamous day, and follows the heroes, victims, and perpetrators of the attack as they made a life after the war. From the roots of the conflict to the lasting effect of the attack, here is the definitive account of the horror, the implications, and the lasting effects of a tragedy that has become a landmark in the American memory. Includes more than 300 images.

Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
"Yesterday, Dec. 7, 1941 -- a date which will live in infamy -- the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan." Thus began President Franklin D. Roosevelt's famous address to Congress as he announced that "a state of war" existed between America and Japan. The editors at Time-Life books have put together a beautiful and stirringly patriotic look back at the events of that fateful day. Along with glossy photos and special gatefolds, the book includes an insightful introduction from military historian Sir John Keegan, as well as a moving foreword by Senator Daniel K. Inouye, who witnessed the bombing as a 17-year-old student.
