Overview

" Shedding light on how we should think and behave; the criteria by which we may seek and find our ways in today's world; golden rules for the journeying through life"

M. Fethullah Gülen has a vision: to raise a generation of young people combining intellectual "enlightenment" with pure spirituality, wisdom, and activism. While many people are content to have a similar vision and apply it on the personal level, Gülen has spent the last 40 years of his life realizing this vision on an international level. This short book features many of Gülen's ideas that have guided this extraordinary venture since its inception. They have inspired millions of ordinary people to do what they normally might never consider doing: helping people they do not know for the sole purpose of earning the pleasure of God by helping a fellow human being.

This book is a compilation of the author's wise sayings. The thrust of his message is that those who want to reform the world must reform themselves first by purifying their hearts of hatred, rancor, and jealousy so that they can lead a virtuous life. If they cannot do so, they do not deserve to be followed. The author discusses a wide variety of topics, such as morals, tolerance, humility, love, freedom, progress, personal integrity, children, and many others.

An example of the great way-of-life of Gulen

I had earlier read the original Turkish version of this book. The author, M. Gulen, is a top class Islam thinker. He practices and teaches Islam to numerous communities in Turkey as well as worldwide. In this book, once again I have seen his understanding of various vital fundamental concepts and criteria. Almost all of the concepts in this book have vital importance for the human being. They could be seriously considered as basic criteria that shape one's life. This book is a must for anyone who is interested in Islam culture. Moreover, the book will help one discover the Turkish perspective, which consists mainly of love, consistency, equilibrium (between emotional and cognitive). The book shows to a Christian reader that Islam has the alike fundamental principles. The same with the Judaism. Furthermore, one could find many humanitarian approaches that reside hidden in Islam, and uncover those treasures. The book itself is a fruitful source of intellectual benefits. This book is worth a fortune. Maybe one day people will understand the value of this book and write major articles based on its concepts. Because it is extremely original.
