Overview

The year is 1985, the location is Ostra, a state in Latin America that time has forgotten, where the only modernity they enjoy is an outdated monetary system based on pearls. Vida leads a simple life as a twenty one year old student, until one day a seemingly harmless family friend takes up residence in Vida's family's home. Javier, a flamboyant con artist with a mysterious past, posing as a minister to win his way into the family's home, moves in and instantly falls dangerously in love with Vida. Vida gradually learns of a force threatening her beloved state and decides to dedicate her life to protecting her country. In Javier's relentless attempts at wooing Vida, she finds that her only use for Javier is to manipulate him into leading her on a journey across her country to discover the force threatening her country.
As they travel from city to city on their quest, the mystery of the perpetrator unfolds. The story intensifies as obstacles drive Vida and Javier's relationship into turmoil. Experience the love, hate, regret, guilt, and jealousy as the story unfolds with one surprise after another.

The story is used with fictional characters but represents the true trends that cause poverty in almost every Third World Country today. While Third World Poverty is mistakenly attributed to lack of modernization and education, an entire suppressed world of thought believes otherwise, which is depicted in this delightfully entertaining novel. A surprising twist at the end of this book reveals a revelation in our own lives in our country today.
