Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Heidi Hauser Green
Thirteen lizards are featured in the pages of this simple field guide. Two half-page, full-color illustrations are provided for each; these typically depict different varieties of a species. For example, the central bearded dragon and eastern bearded dragon are shown on the two pages dedicated to "Bearded Dragons." Half a page is also devoted to a world map with the lizard's range highlighted. This leaves just half a page for facts about the featured lizards. For each, Zachary Pitts reports the "length," what it "eats," where it "lives" and a few facts of trivia (for example, that bearded dragons are "able to wave to each other," horned lizards are "able to spray blood from eyes," and skinks "have very short legs"). This may whet readers' appetites for more information. Includes a glossary, references for two related books and information about logging into to access age-appropriate Internet sites.
