Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Carrie Hane Hung
Beginning herpetologists may enjoy this text. This beginner's field guide identifies thirteen snakes. The table of contents shows which snakes are featured in this guide. The snakes are divided into two groups, venomous and nonvenomous; each group has an alphabetical listing. In each layout, there are two close-up, color photographs of the snake; the labels on the pictures identify the particular species. A bulleted list of information includes the length, diet, and habitat of this reptile. A world map illustrates where in the world the snake lives. Informational text features include a glossary and index. The text provides names of two additional books along with the FactHound internet site for students to find more information about snakes. On the cataloging in publication page, there is a helpful reminder to parents and teachers about assisting young readers with the informational text features and content vocabulary. This book is a part of the "Pebble First Guides" series which also has field guides on other animals. Reviewer: Carrie Hane Hung
