Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Melissa Hower
This book is one of the books from the "Pebble First Guides" series, and it is filled with information about 13 different spiders from all over the world. There are at least 40,000 species of spiders which are grouped by common characteristics. The 13 spiders in this book are from the web-weaving, fishing, jumping, hunting, sac spinning, and ambush categories. The length for both the male and female spider, what the spider eats, where it lives, and other interesting facts are presented using a two page spread for each spider. With a statistics chart and labeled color photographs, this book is easy to navigate even for young readers. The book also includes subject-specific vocabulary words that are defined in the glossary, an index, a list of related books, and steps explaining how to find safe Internet sites that can provide more information. This book would be a welcome addition to any elementary school library. The simple and well organized pages would make this an excellent resource when teaching young children researching skills or how to write a report. Reviewer: Melissa Hower
