Doody ReviewsReviewer: Richard Tupler, MD (Ochsner Clinic Foundation)
Description: Using a case-based approach, this well-organized and readable book covers the most important musculoskeletal conditions affecting the pediatric population.
Purpose: The authors' goal is to provide both a resource and learning tool for the full range of musculoskeletal MR findings that affect children and adolescents. They have succeeded in providing a relevant reference tool for clinical practice.
Audience: Though not explicitly stated, it is obvious that anyone involved in the interpretation of musculoskeletal images in the pediatric population would find this book invaluable. Every musculoskeletal and pediatric radiologist, at a minimum, should have access to this useful work
Features: The format of the 100 cases is exceptionally efficient and effective. Appropriate history is provided followed by relevant images. The imaging findings are then summarized and a correct diagnosis provided. Several questions about the entity are presented (with the answers later provided) , and the discussion is appropriately detailed. Pitfalls and pearls and appropriate references round out the information. Nearly a thousand excellent images highlight the case discussions. Perhaps most welcome is the orthopedic perspective, with an emphasis on what clinicians need to know. The combined radiologic and orthopedic points of view complement each other well and provide the ultimate learning experience.
Assessment: This user-friendly resource focusing on both commonly encountered and unusual pediatric conditions (including sports injuries) is a particularly welcome addition to the radiology textbook marketplace.
