Reviewer: Douglas Moodie, MD (Ochsner Clinic Foundation)
Description: This manual and CD-ROM contain clinical practice guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics. The previous edition was published in 2004.
Purpose: The purpose is to have in a central place the guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics that are the evidence-based decision making tools for managing common pediatric conditions along with the background information to support those policies.
Audience: The audience is all pediatricians in both general and subspecialty pediatrics as well as pediatric nurses and ancillary pediatric personnel dealing with children.
Features: The clinical practice guidelines are designed to provide pediatricians with a framework for evaluating and treating common childhood conditions. Particularly important guidelines cover Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, febrile seizure, otitis media, sinusitis, and sleep apnea.
Assessment: This is the fifth edition of what has become a very important annual publication for all pediatricians. A compendium of evidence-based clinical research for the clinician is critical in modern medicine and to have it all contained in one book with a CD-ROM is important for everyone practicing in the field of pediatrics.
