More About This Book

Editorial Reviews

Kevin L. Boyd
This book provides a comprehensive and scientific basis for learning and reviewing the current knowledge of dentistry for children. The primary objective is to provide a scientific basis for understanding and treating dental disease at various developmental stages. Undergraduate students would be well-served by this book regardless of their desire to treat children in future practice. The book will be especially valuable to postgraduate students in their training and as a reference for practicing specialists. The sections on medically compromised, trauma, and orthodontic patients has applicability for adult patients as well. Furthermore, the section on infection control is both current and comprehensive. The most unique and valuable component of this book is its layout. Understanding dental situations peculiar to a young person's particular stage of development enables the reader to apply the information in a realistic and effective manner. Photographs and diagrams are well conceived and helpful in understanding the written text, although some color would have been an asset. The new hardcover format is a great improvement over the previous edition. This relative newcomer to reference books in pediatric dentistry is destined to be a classic. Its primary strengths are threefold: (1) it has a unique layout structure that teaches relative to developmental stages; (2) it is written by credible specialists from diverse backgrounds, not institutional as in other texts in pediatric dentistry; and (3) the information reflects current thinking, which is evident by the bibliographies and boxes containing supplemental information.
