Description: This is a useful reference for all physicians who take care of pediatric patients in need of emergency care. The first edition, published in 1995, has been improved upon with the addition of a chapter on conscious sedation and expansion of chapters on pediatric heart disease, dermatology, toxicology, and psychosocial issues.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide a readable and accessible clinical reference for the management of common and uncommon emergency conditions. This book fills a niche in the practice of emergency medicine.
Audience: The authors intend this book for pediatricians, emergency physicians, and primary care providers. It is written on a level for this audience by some of the most respected authors.
Features: The book covers types of pediatric emergency patients seen in the emergency department including hematology, oncology, emergency medical services, and ethical and legal issues. The book is designed to be an easy, quick read when patient information is needed in the clinical setting or as a pediatric review. The inside covers are chock full of useful charts.
Assessment: This is wonderful addition to any emergency department library. It meets its stated purpose of being a quick but complete reference that other textbooks cannot offer. Significant new information includes up-to-date medications and essential new material.
