Reviewer: Mary Louise Seymour, M.D.(Ochsner Clinic Foundation)
Description: This is a comprehensive outline of pediatric emergency medicine practice which parallels the organization of a well known full text. It contains useful tables pertaining to diagnosis and management and has appendixes of formulas, procedures, and common abbreviations.
Purpose: The book was intended as an abbreviated, bullet format study guide of pediatric emergency medicine. There are few other such handbooks. This one meets its objectives and is well suited for board review study.
Audience: This handbook was intended for pediatric emergency medicine board candidates, but it can also function as a handbook for established practitioners in the emergency setting.
Features: The handbook covers a comprehensive range of topics including prehospital emergency care, resuscitation, traumatic and medical emergencies, as well as legal issues. It is designed in a unique bulleted outline containing detailed tables and appendix of procedures. It also includes a free PDA download.
Assessment: This is the first edition of this unique handbook and is an excellent must read study guide as well as a practical handbook for use in the pediatric emergency setting.
