Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Today is the day to go to the market. Pedro and Papa are off to look for and buy a new burro to help them with their work. While they walk there, Papa and Pedro talk about the type of burro that they need to purchase. The main qualifications for the burro are that it must be able to pull and carry items. While at the market, the father and son see a number of burros and, Pedro wonders how they will select which burro can help pull and carry things for them. Surprisingly, there’s a delightful twist as a burro selects Pedro and his father convinces them to be its new owners by demonstrating its remarkable abilities. The illustrations throughout the book bring a charm to the simple plot. This story is part of the shared reading books of the “I Can Read” series. Reviewer: Carrie Hane Hung
School Library Journal

PreS-Gr 1 This winning story is enhanced by Estrada's colorful, inviting illustrations. Pedro and Papa travel to market to select a new burro, but they wonder how they will find the right one. After looking at many, they meet a playful one wearing a hat, and he proves to be just right for work and friendship. Featuring repetition and humor, the simple story is set in large type with ample white space. The eye-catching illustrations add to the fun, with detailed Latin American-flavored backgrounds, varying perspectives, and an adorable animal that will capture readers' hearts.-Barbara Katz, Parish Episcopal School, Dallas, TX
