This treacly holiday tale from the creators of A Cup of Christmas Tea tries hard to push all the right buttons, but might not manage to elicit more than a yawn. With a little help from the elves, Santa stitches up a new toy: ``A scrap of blue... a seam of pink... some green, some red, some brown.../ Why, every color that there was was running up and down/ The front and sides and underneath of what was forming there-/ A Santa-hand-made masterpiece... a brand new Christmas bear!'' The patchwork bear yearns to belong to a child, but Santa is reluctant to part with him; readers who wade through the dense thickets of overwrought verse will not be surprised by the inevitable moment of sacrifice. Full of fervid purples, the artwork matches the text in its triteness. All ages. 50,000-copy first printing. (Nov.)

After hearing a review on a local radio station some yewrs back i purchased for my family. It became our favorite Xmas story. I now purchase copies each year for gifts for the next generation of family and friends as they arrive.

I bought my first copy of this book when it first came out almost ten years ago. Have purchased several copies over the years--for my grandsons, for friends' children, for adult friends, with highly favorable responses. Each year I challenge myself to read this book aloud. Each year I start out well, but as the story progresses my voice starts to break, tears well up, and then tears flow. This is a powerful story about love and its true meaning. You might also well find a parallel to the original Christmas story.

This is one of the BEST holiday Christmas books. My daughters are in their 20's and they still talk of this book. Now I have a grandson and can't wait to read it to him

This is my very favorite Christmas story besides The Little Drummer Boy. Still brings tears to my eyes! I own the second one also. I teach 3 & 4 year olds. A bit long for the children, but those who do pay attention love it also. Wonderful story of giving and sharing.

My daughter received this book for Christmas when she was 3. At the time, it was a long read for her. She's 18 now and our son is 10. We've been reading Peef every Christmas for the past 13 years. My kids both laugh at me because I can't get through it without tears. It's a wonderful book and I haven't seen it in any store anywhere which is quite disappointing. This year for Christmas, I will buy the 2nd story of Peef and give it to our daughter along with her book to take back to university with her. I will give our son his own Peef book. I believe the deeper story to Peef is about a child growing up and leaving home. I always have believed that about the book, long before our daughter went off to university. Now, it holds more meaning than ever.

I brought this book for my 5 yr. old grandson on a recent visit. He LOVED it, it was read to him numerous times over a 5 day period, enough so he was telling me the story. Don't listen to the critics, Great bright colored pictures

I bought the book Peef the Christmas Bear along with the toy bear for my son when he was four. We read the book on Christmas Eve and he woke up with the bear on his pillow on Christmas day. What a thrill. Even though he is now 12, Peef comes out every year to spend Christmas with us. Nothing brings the ideals of Christmas alive like giving a great home to a toy teddy bear that just wanted to be loved by a child.
