Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
Peek-a-roar! Peek-a-squawk! Curious toddlers can now play peek-a-boo with a host of zoo animals in this breezy, cute-as-a-button lift-the-flap. As readers turn the brightly colored pages that ask "Guess who? Peek-a-...," large flaps of paws, wings, and flippers cover the eyes of smiling animals, prompting little ones to open them and see which animal is hiding beneath. The book's final spread provides readers with extra animal practice, asking them to "guess who is saying good-bye" under seven animal-sounds flaps that show the happy critters underneath. Another adorable book from the team who brought you Peek-a-Moo, this lighthearted read will have audiences snorting and howling for more.
Publishers Weekly
The follow-up to the paper-over-board Peek-a-Moo!, Peek-a-Zoo! by Marie Torres Cimarusti, illus. by Stephanie Peterson, engages readers in a variation of the favorite childhood game with different animals hiding beneath flaps that resemble claws, paws, etc. ("Guess who? Peek-a-"). When readers turn down the flap, they uncover the animal's identity ("roar! Says the lion"). A human child appears as the grand finale.
Children's Literature
As a first book for an infant, this is an excellent selection. Based on what is probably the first game ever played with a child in arms, Peek-a-Zoo should be a familiar concept, even to the youngest child. The opening page suggests a game of peek-a-boo at the zoo and starts with, "Guess who? Peek-a-," and when a huge and sturdy one-third of-a-page-size flap picturing a lion with paws over his eyes is lifted away from the animal's face, "roar! says the lion." There are half a dozen more zoo animals hiding their eyes and one baby human at the end. Inside the back cover, all of the animals make a second appearance, this time under the flaps with their sounds on the outside. 2003, Dutton,

We were introduced to this book during library time and fell in love with the animals.  My son loves the growling, howling, and screeching sounds we make while reading.

    Great Book!

I got Peek-a-Moo at my baby shower and my daughter LOVES it so much that I bought her Peek-a-Zoo also! She loves that she can pull the flaps down herself! Great book would recommend to anyone! I now buy Peek-a-Moo and Peek-a-Zoo for every baby shower I attend! So far everyone has loved it!

    Requested daily!

We just found this title after Peek-a-Moo became a daily favorite read for our toddler. This one also has colorful, engaging pictures and large flaps revealing animal faces. My only wish is for the flaps to be sturdier! We also will purchase Peek-a-Pet for more fun reading!
