Children's LiteratureIn this lift-the-flap book, twin sisters play peekaboo with their dog, Stretch, as their parents do yard work. The story, all written in dialogue, shows the girls searching for their dog. Each time one of the twins thinks she has found him, it turns out to be something else. She thinks she sees part of his tail sticking out from under the gate and says, "Peekaboo, Stretch! I see your tail." When the flap (the gate) is lifted the other twin is sitting behind the date and says, "No, that's the hose." Meanwhile, Stretch is hiding in the weeds. Preschoolers will enjoy lifting the flap and finding Stretch hiding in another place. A cute ending has the twins finding Stretch after he has dug holes in the yard and found his bone. Each page has clever, detailed, and vibrant illustrations, which are an excellent match for this fun book. 2006, Candlewick Press, Ages 2 to 5.
